My goal is to do @1000hoursoutside for my 25th year of life. Shoot for the moon and you’ll land among the stars, right?
I am so grateful for some places opening back up as Helene devastated WNC. This is our official first hike since the disaster, and there’s something about it that makes me feel even more grateful for this beautiful area. I spent my earliest years here. I created a family here. The mountains are always a part of me. Praise God that it is still so beautiful despite the tragedy.
Praying for the continued recovery of our community, and appreciating nature a little more these days.

Sacrifice isn’t pretty. The ultimate sacrifice involved blood and nails.

In a much smaller way, being a wife and mother has taught me much about sacrifice.

I sacrificed my body by carrying a baby for nine months.
I sacrificed many of my other ambitions to be home with my child.
I *try* to sacrifice my own pride when my husband and I disagree.
and much more little sacrifices, every single day.

I can tell you with full confidence that although sacrifice is not without pain— it is the most beautiful expression of love I have encountered. To give one’s life completely as a gift: I have found that to be the greatest love.

We’ve had a difficult week of tears, teething, and travel. If there’s one thing I know that helps me, it’s getting outside for a bit. This is one of my favorite local hikes because my daughter LOVES the goats. And so do I.

No matter what’s going on in your world, I highly recommend just going for a walk. Get outside. You’d be surprised what God can do with a little bit of fresh air. 🐻

Just a reminder that timelines aren’t always picture perfect. I am extremely blessed and privileged to have married young and I have a lot to learn in this little life of mine. But I believe I did this things right here.
I see often in Christian circles an obsession with getting married as young as possible. I think it verges on being an irresponsible thing to promote. Of course, through prayer in discernment you could have a healthy marriage start at 18! But the number isn’t a deciding factor. Have you discerned marriage is your vocation? Have you found a person that you believe God is calling you to? Is this the right time?

There’s nothing I regret about ignoring the criticism (about getting married young) and marrying this wonderful man at 22. Because I believe God was calling me to this vocation to pursue Heaven with Israel. 🤍

Gospel reading for today put this image in my head— I humbly reproduced it with pen and paper. A reminder of how often we must listen for His voice. When we are lost in our darkness, His voice steers us back to Him: The Good Shepherd. 🐑

Jesus said:

Gentleness does not come easy to me. I was actually really fearful to have a child because I tend to be hot headed. To quote Taylor Swift (lol) “my words shoot to kill when I’m mad.”
I was reading a really great book called Hunt Gather Parent by Dr. Michaleen Doucleff in the part where she meets with the Inuit mothers. In their culture, it is seen as immature to yell at children. After all, children are the ones who don’t know how to regulate their emotions. If you’re yelling at a child, then you are acting like a screaming toddler.
Unfortunately it’s much easier said than done, and I need a whole lot of grace. My prayer lately has been “Jesus, help me be patient and gentle.”
By far the easiest thing to do when im about to boil over is going for a walk. There’s something about the outdoors that just helps everyone take a chill pill. 🌷

Welcome to Holy Week everyone. 🌿 I wanted to reflect a bit about the past almost year (!!!) of being a mother and being my own person.
I think there is this expectation that we need to be careful not to “lose ourselves” in motherhood or get back to our “old selves” at some point. I understand the sentiment. But I don’t agree with it.
I am NOT saying that we should be martyrs when we aren’t being asked to be. In fact, love of self is important in the Christian life. Take Aquinas, who wrote “‘Thou shalt love thy friend as thyself.’ Now we love our friends out of charity. Therefore we should love ourselves too out of charity.”
Having interests outside of motherhood is a great thing. What I am arguing against is the notion that we need to hold back the identity of mother to feel like a whole person.
Self love and self care do not have to be long hours away from our duties as mothers. In fact, self care can be simple yet effective. Dressing up for the day. Making a favorite cup of tea. Reading for one’s own enjoyment.
I think so many women feel discouraged that they aren’t able to have retreats, nights alone and things of the sort. Don’t get me wrong— those can be wonderful things. But do not be discontent. What can you do now, today to relish in your Daughterhood? What can draw you into the identity of being a beloved daughter of God? Do that thing. It’s as simple as that. Talk to a girlfriend. Paint your nails. Sing out loud.
Being around your children isn’t prohibiting you from being you. Take care of yourself and be yourself amidst motherhood.

Did you know that when a mother is pregnant, the child is already deeply connected with the mother?
Through a process called microchimerism, some fetal cells become embedded it maternal organs. Whether or not the child makes it earth-side, there’s always a part of them with the mother.
In addition to this, babies recognize their moms voices and react to their touch. Babies are only a few weeks gestation when they begin to hear!
And there is where it breaks my heart. To think of all the babies who love their mothers voice, become a part of their mother, and want nothing but to be held by them upon birth.
Some mothers will decide to end the child’s life voluntarily.
How many babies have passed, never getting to cuddle their mothers?
How many mothers will choose to lose the chance to feel a love like they could never imagine? Due to pressure, financial burden, selfishness, coercion, feeling inadequate, fear of abuse…

Support women so we may have a culture of life. Vote for policies that protect and support families. Help moms cuddle their babies. 🧸

I heard the phase “motherhood is my ministry”

I heard the phase “motherhood is my ministry” a while ago. It has sat with me since.

If you know anything about me, you know I’m an all-or-nothing, full throttle on projects kind of person. If I could save all the children in the world I would. I frequently take breaks from social media when there is some sort of humanitarian crisis because I can’t take it. I don’t know what that says about me, but anyway…
I have good intentions to start my own nonprofit, volunteer regularly, and corporal works of mercy. But what really struck me about the idea of motherhood being my ministry is that my family should be the most frequent recipient of that mercy.
Although I certainly could become a missionary or be extremely dedicated to helping the poor— my calling is primarily at home. I have been entrusted with these souls, after all. I have to use my will in accordance with the grace of God to do the duties of this ministry.
I have a longing in my heart to do something in addition to my ministry at home. I don’t know what that is yet, but I trust that God put that in my heart for a reason. Until then, I will treat my time with my daughter and husband with care. It is my primary responsibility and greatest joy.

I am attempting a mindset shift. I am fully leaning into joy. That’s my word of the year for 2024, by the way. Joy. I desire to unite my will with Christ’s and fully live out my life in the joy that the Lord gives. This means for me adding more things that enrich my life. Time with friends, exploring outdoors, and attempting to rejoice in the mundane. Living completely in the present, and “laughing at the days to come.”

I am choosing more. Choosing the harder thing.

to step out of my comfort zone and go on a walk or hike.
to do the laundry because it glorifies the Lord to take care of my family.
to put down the phone in line at the store.
to look into people’s eyes.
to really listen when people speak.

Lord, grant me the grace to do so.
